IE Designer Uses Talents to Raise Awareness of Greyhound Racing Abuse

Anne Van Wagener receives grant to facilitate philanthropic print campaign

IE Design + Communications is pleased to announce designer Anne Van Wagener recently completed a pro-bono marketing campaign for the greyhound advocacy group Leaving Tracks.

Selected out of 120 worldwide applicants for the prestigious Sappi Fine Papers Ideas That Matter grant in 2008, Van Wagener was awarded the grant to create a campaign to educate the public about the realities of greyhound racing and to promote greyhound adoption.

“My passion for the plight of greyhounds was sparked at 16 after attending my first greyhound race” Van Wagener said. “The experience from that night has stayed with me. While people studied their race programs and placed their bets, I was moved to make a difference.”

The campaign aims to support and promote the efforts of Leaving Tracks, and ultimately seeks to find an end to racing. Sappi saw the value of design making a positive difference and created the Ideas That Matter program in 1999 to inspire designers to create projects that are closest to their hearts. The program has awarded over $6 million today to top designers who have partnered with philanthropic organizations in the development of marketing proposals.

Marcie Carson, IE’s Principal and Creative Director praised Van Wagener’s yearlong efforts. “When a designer combines their conceptual expertise with a philanthropic passion, creativity for a cause is born”, said Carson. “At IE we believe design has the potential to create change through delivering impactful messages that raise visibility and awareness.”
